2011 Tea Charts and Statistics Extravaganza

11th January 2012

Welcome one and all to the prestigious 8th annual Louis' Tea Charts and Statistics Extravaganza! Yes, it's that time of year again! It's only a matter of time until it's declared as a National holiday!

The grand total of cups of tea drunk in 2011 is 1286. Despite the previous year's low total, 2011 had the highest amount recorded since records began. You would have thought that this would be cause for celebration; but sadly, the database brought to light some saddening news.

During the year there was tea brewed - by my own hand no less - that was left, forgotten about; only to be discovered later in the day… stone cold. This was extremely irresponsible of me and I'm ashamed to say that this happened not once, but on two separate occasions. Therefore, it's been decided that that this year's Tea Charts and Statistics Extravaganza will stand as a memorial to those two cups of tea that were unable to fulfil their destiny.

2010 Tea Charts and Statistics Extravaganza

11th January 2011

Welcome one and all to the prestigious 7th annual Louis' Tea Charts and Statistics Extravaganza! That's right, it's the day that you've all been waiting for! I hope everybody's enjoying the street parties! I'd like to take a moment to thank everybody for tolerating all of the trivial posts made throughout the year featuring artwork that I so painstakingly poured so much time and effort into making. This my dear friends, is your reward!

It's been a strange year in the world of tea, at 978 cups 2010 is the year with the lowest yearly total since records began. Tea prices went up. Various well loved animated (Tetley Tea Folk), claymation (Wallace and Gromit) and stuffed characters (Johnny Vegas) have been promoting the major brands - leaving me feeling confused and conflicted about brand loyalty.

Anyway, I'm not going to talk much this year; I know that you're only here for the cold hard stats! So without further ado, bring forth the charts!

However, I know that a mere tally is not enough to satisfy the needs of the modern data-hungry web user. Please feel free to print them out and pin them up on the community board at your local town hall.

Louis' Favourite Tea Chart 2008

11th January 2009

A word from of sponsor:

"All my life, I have worked for this moment. To stand here, before this assembled crowd, on the floor of this historic tea factory, where so many blends have come and gone. Yet the industry perseveres. And not only that; it grows. Grows beyond our wildest dreams, every single day. With every birth comes a new tea drinker into the world, and these emerald isles lead the way in producing the finest tea the world has to offer. Where else to live?

And so, on this historic day in 2009 when Louis releases his new tea chart, I would like to affirm my links to this proud institution. The chart has been going for years now, and the industry continues to sit up and take notice every time it changes. So, with that, I shall hand you over to Louis to present his chart. Good luck to everyone, may the best tea win!"

Mr. Craig Laycock
Tea Connoisseur

As insiders already know and analysts suspected, this year's tea chart comes with an additional statistic. For the entirety of 2008, every cup of tea consumed was accurately recorded for future prosperity (refills excluded).

This total equates to: 1192 cups

That's a little over 3.2 cups per day and approximately 104 imperial gallons of tea. Allow me to put that into perspective; If cars ran on tea instead of petroleum, you would be able to make 8 round trips from Morecambe Bay to Amsterdam in a Vauxhall Astra (weather and traffic permitting). Further more, you would still have enough milage leftover for several day trips to The Magical Kingdom of Camelot Theme Park.

The tea chart is as follows:

1. Make Mine a Builders (+1)
2. Ooi Ocha, Itoen. (New Entry)
3. Hazelmere Special House Tea (New Entry)
4. Redbush, Tetley (New Entry)
5. Ringtons
6. Yorkshire Tea (-1)
7. Sencha, Ujinotsuyu Co. Ltd. (-6)
8. PG Tips

Who knows what's in store for 2009. The tea industry has already proven that it isn't immune to the credit crisis. Just recently the renowned tea chain Whittard's of Chelsea entered into administration.
