Photos of Japan, Part 1

21st December 2007

In total I took over 800 photographs - far less than Peter and Barry - but a large amount nonetheless. To spare you all, I have siphoned my photographs down to my favourite 60. I won't be reposting any of the photographs that have appeared previously on the website, but if you go back to the original posts you'll find that you are now able to click the images to view a larger size.

Peter took some really incredible photographs, they really put mine to shame! If you get the chance you should go visit his deviantART page where he has started posting some of his best ones.

Some of the text accompanying the photographs was written on location which didn't get the opportunity to be posted, so apologies if the tense jumps around a bit.

Some of the buildings in Akihabara that I spent far too much time in and spent far too much money in.

A bustling street in Shibuya.

A view of Tokyo taken from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices observatory in West Shinjuku.

Again, the view from the observatory but this time taken at night.

Hozo-mon gate at Senso-ji temple.

The smoke is coming from a Joukoro incense burner. These burners apparently improve health and heal various parts of your body, lungs excepted.

This is the five storey pagoda at Senso-ji temple. Although you can only see two and a quarter pagodes in this photograph.

A Taiwanese building in Shinjuku Gyoen park.

The cosmic clock in Yokohama.

The Fuji TV headquarters. We went into the sphere where some Japanese idol singers were being filmed.

This futuristic sightseeing boat designed by Leiji Matsumoto, creator of Galaxy Express 999. Commentary was given by life-sized cardboard cut-outs of his characters.

Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Bay at night.

The obligatory 'Engrish' post courtesy of the Asia Center of Japan hotel. An unfortunate misspelling of 'dock'.

Ah, lovely pics! The building centre-frame in the photo from Shinjuku West is the Park Hyatt where they filmed Lost in Translation. Expensive place, not least the bar which cost me £20 to get in leaving me with just about enough money to buy some chocolates (£15) before having to rush back to Nagoya on the shinkansen.
